16th May

Punk rock originated in the 1970's as an irritating, underground uprising opposed to common current of music charted by the number or sales. Rock ensambles alike Green Day, Iggy Pop, and Pere Ubu boosted punk back in 1990. This time the mesh of lively, simple rock music with catchy pop melodies cooled heels on the TV. These days, self-styled punk pop is the main part in the sphere of chart music. These ten music tracks are fine starting points to learn punk pop.

1. blink-182 - Enema of the State

In blink-182's endless attempt to offend all grown ups in the neighbourhood, that record album featured a person clothed as an enema au pair on the booklet. The punk pop inside is adolescent and catchy including the massive hit single “Dysentery Gary.”

2. The Donnas - Spend the Night

Girls play punk rock, too, and this song is an abounding evidence of the fact. The group formed after the American rock band Ramones in NY with each singer taking the name Donna. Download Paramore to listen to it.

3. Good Charlotte - Young and the Hopeless

Good Charlotte blasted into the top ten of the popular music album chart. It's full with history of college and problem mothers. The big #1 song is “Girls & Boys.”

4. Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia

Later retreating from their nineties fleeting surge of popularity, Green Day retreated from live performances to mix punk's first opera. Although the popular punk band was unsure about their fanclub's attitude to Jesus of Suburbia, it turned out to be a UK punk rock classic topping the charts and winning a Grammy award for Best Rock Album of two thousand and four.

5. The Lemonheads - Ceiling Fan in My Spoon
